Everyday for 7 Weeks–Day 38–San Francisco

We came to San Francisco to visit friends. We really enjoy the city and I think it has been our third or fourth visit. While they were slaving away at work, we slept in and then enjoyed a lazy breakfast. Waiting for the rain to stop. Our friends told us it almost never rains in San Francisco in June.

By lunchtime we were hungry and wandered down the street. We attempted to take the bus, but the driver didn’t stop. It was one of the stops printed on the street. We were told later we were supposed to flag him down. oh well. Just as we found a proper bus stop the rain tried to start again, so we waited three minutes for it to stop. The walk was nice as it let us see and experience more of the city.

We relaxed after lunch and then took the underground MUNI downtown to play tourist.

We have seen most of the sights on previous visits, so we just hopped on one of the open top buses and rode around the downtown area for a while.

It was nice to see the city without being distracted by the traffic. It also gave awesome opportunities for photos. The first tour guide was pretty entertaining.

The MUNI ride back was packed. The first train was standing room only and the passengers were packed in like sardines. There wasn’t any room for us to squeeze in. The second train had just enough room for us. It was a short ride back to where we were staying.

We went out with our friends for a very tasty dinner and a drive around town.

They took us up to the twin peaks to get a glimpse of the city below at night. It was pretty packed with people all snapping photos. The wind was blowing quite hard, so we didn’t stay too long. On they way back down we went down a 17% grade. whee! I think the street yesterday was even more steep.

It was great to see our friends again, and had a blast staying with them.

  1. Being a tourist in San Francisco, one of my most favourite North American cities. I have been to the city quite a few times, and one still find spots one haven't seen before. And the food... gorgeous.

I noticed that they actually have real bike parking spots, and wish that we could have those in Vancouver, too.

    1. it is one of our favorite cities as well right next to chicago and portland. vancouver was nice too ;)

yes, food was good all three times we ate out.

real motorcycle parking existed like that in, i think, every CA city we visited. keep working, and you guys can get it too.

  2. The bike parking does have parking meters though I never looked at he rates. I have visited SF regularly over the years since I was a kid and still enjoy wandering around the City. Usually I'm in the financial district somewhere near Moscone Center and generally too busy to explore much. The best thing about SF is the food. It seems to be difficult to find a mediocre restaurant as they can't stay in business.

    1. The moto rates in SFO were much cheaper than cars. I think cars were $4/hour and bikes about $0.50/hour.

      indeed. the food was good.

  3. Now why didn't we think of an open air bus tour when we were in SF last year? Great idea you two.

I love all the pics in the flickr album. You must have had a great day seeing the sights and tasting all that yummy food.

    1. I dunno? We saw them as we were riding into town, and thought they looked like fun. I would do it again, but take it further out to golden gate or muir woods next time. they are at least half dozen companies doing them. We just walked up to one in union square, paid and got on. paying online is a bit cheaper though.

SFO is fun. one of our fave cities in the US.
