Today was all about the meetups. I had planned on visiting Navythomas8 (NT8) in Omaha since last fall, and it was good to see him again. I also had a surprise email last night to meet up with another Youtuber in the area “Really2Ugly” (R2U). I made ride from Lincoln to Omaha this morning to meet up with NT8 after short blast down I-80.
We had a good time shooting the breeze, and then met R2U for lunch. Fun times.
After lunch, NT8 insisted I ride his brand new BMW G650GS Sertao. How could I argue? The pink crash bars match my black riding gear. lol.
His BMW on the left, and his KLR on the right. He’s just transitioning from his KLR650 to BMW. He has been riding his KLR year round in Omaha for the last few years.
I was surprised. I liked riding the bike. It was just a few pounds heavier than my SV, but was noticeably lacking on power. Good breaks too. I didn’t like the windscreen, and with only 90 miles on the clock, the tires were still a bit slippery. Overall, a nice bike. I won’t be replacing the SV anytime soon though (or adding it to the stable).
For dinner, we met up with R2U again. It had started to thunderstorm, so we hitched a ride in R2Us car. Our bikes his under the safety of the hotel.
Dinner was tasty.
It rained a LOT. Lots of thunder and lightning as well.
Too soon it was over. They both had to get up early in the morning, so we said our farewells. I had a fun time in Omaha with both of them.
One more shot of NT8. He’s not your typical BMW rider! I can’t wait to see it in the snow.

Fun day for meet ups. Looks like a good day for it with the rain too.
ReplyDeletePretty view of Omaha.
It was a good day. There is never a dull moment with NT8.
DeletePink crash bars. Someone is really opting for something different. Meetups are always great, and you seem to have found another delicious food source.
ReplyDeleteYour journey has almost come to an end... how does it feel to get home?
yes, Tom likes to be different. I told him he needs to put his pink pigtails back on his helmet to match the crashbars.
Deletegot lucky with dinner. all three of us loved it.
how does it feel to get home? i will write more about that later, but in a word. strange. in two. good. in three, mixed.
The Sertao looks pretty nice replacement for the old F650GS thumper. But underpowered, you say.
ReplyDeleteNice getting meetup with others. I've been enjoying the videos. The time lapse ones are pretty cool.
yes, the Sertao is a 650, but it felt way down on power both HP and torque compared to the SV.
Deleteglad you're liking the vids! I have a few more to make I hope. nice to have a powerful computer again to process things. now I just gotta find a faster internet connection. SFO really spoiled me.
Letting someone else ride the bike with so few miles.... man... I don't know if I could... trying to remember how many miles on my truck (now gone), my car, or my motorcycle when I let someone else drive them. Actually I don't think I've let anyone (other than the guys at the service shops etc) drive my car anywhere.. probably one of the reasons I got a manual trans car... actually there has even been a few service places that the guy is like "um... can you drive it in?" ... as for my current motorcycle, only my dad has ridden mine (well save service guys etc), much as I have ridden his (well at least his 2003 motorcycle.. of which there is an embarrassing picture of me floating around) ... and well my old motorcycle was my dad's motorcycle ... but I dont think I let anyone drive it either... but then again I guess it is trust... there are very few people in my life that I turst their driving... hmm.. that being said I could see letting you try the harley... but ... I don't think you'd really like it based on your typical motorcycle tastes.
ReplyDeleteTom is one serious charector... don't know if I will ever really understand him :) But the short-term pink guards didn't seem out of place at all...
I'm with you. I've let someone ride almost all of my bikes now, but it took a while to do it. When I had a car no one drove it except the service guys and my wife.
Deleteyou don't think I'd like your harley? ;)
NT8 is a character indeed. Never a dull moment with him. I enjoy his company.
You do the best food pictures, Chris. What does that mean?
ReplyDeleteSo how's the trip budget looking?
I don't know. what DOES that mean? I like food.
DeleteTrip budget came in slightly more than I hoped, but less than expected. In other words, I don't need to sell the GS to pay for it.
