Lots of people and motorcycles this month at Motorcycle First Thursday at Dulono’s Pizza in Minneapolis. I would guess about double from last month, so I’d guess 1000+ bikes and a few thousand people.
As last month, I took the WR250R down. I’ve been riding it the most the last two weeks. It is such a fun little bike. As soon as I pulled in with it, two different people started talking to me. One was an older guy from FL who wanted to buy a DR200, and this reminded him of it. The other was a guy named Todd that had liked to ride dual sports too.
We chatted for a while, and he mentioned he didn’t get to Theilman this past weekend. I couldn’t go either because of my RiderCoach training. He said he watched a video of a guy riding there on his DRZ400 and falling 15 times, and how much he liked it. It took a few minutes to convince him it was the WR250R in front of us, and that it was my video. How cool is that? A random guy saw my video “15 Ways to Drop a Bike” and found it funny (the intent of the vid). We made a loose plan to attempt to ride together later in the summer.
The spikes and daggers all over this bike made it rather unique.
I spent most of my time making a video with the GoProHD again. All of the pictures below were taken by my friend Dave McLellan.
(above: the only other sidecar – a custom R1150GS)
(above: a pic from Dave’s beautiful Hayabusa. He always gets a great parking spot by the door. The luxuries of being retired.)
(above: The Freddy Krueger art bike shows up regularly. I have a photo from September 2009: Krueger Art Bike )
(above: A Spyder with the touring package. I haven’t seen many of these lately.)
I’m still working on the video. Been busy studying for my first class next week and getting the Ural ready for this weekend.
Good stuff Chris, though the amount of people is above my usual level of tolerance....way too many.
ReplyDeleteDid you get a closer look at that 1150GS rig? Any inspiration perhaps? : )

Dom: Yes, that belongs to a guy named Dan. I've talked with him many times now. He was trying to get me to buy his tug then. He's going to replace it with a R1150GSA vs his current, heavily modified, R1150GS.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if this is the same First Thursday that Gary C ( of Baron in Winter fame ) used to write about in his blog. Last I knew he rode a green KLR. We lost touch a while back. Interesting that you are in the same area.
ReplyDeleteThe Freddy Krueger is wild!! Always love a bike much more when a dog is in the sidecar! Nice pics!
ReplyDeleteirondad: it is indeed the same event as he was also living in st. paul when he wrote that blog.
ReplyDeletesharon: dogs and sidecars are like peanut butter and jelly.
