My Gerbing dual temp heat controller failed last winter. It has two knobs: one grey and one black. The grey knob failed; it just kept spinning. It also wouldn’t provide heat. Fortunately, I wasn’t using my Gerbing heated gloves since the hot grips were more than enough, so I was able to run the coat through the other side.
I intended to send them in for repair once the weather warmed up, but then I forgot about it. As I was testing my winter gear to make sure everything still worked and fit correctly, I found the problem again.
A quick call to Gerbing and I was able to get an RMA number. The controller was in the mail the next day via USPS. Three weeks later my new controller arrived. Instead of fixing mine, they just sent me a new one. Nice.
I like their quick service, and that I was able to talk to a friendly person without navigating through a horrible phone menu. The new controller is working great.
This is my second time dealing with Gerbing warranty. You can read about the previous time here: Gerbing Heated Glove Warranty.
Thanks Gerbing!
That is a pretty good commentary about their warranty service. I have not made the leap to heated gear yet though I occasionally think about it since it may simplify what I need to carry on a long trip.

I'm glad it all went well. I love it when there isn't that menu of choices when you call. Talking to a real person is a big plus for me. I'm lovin' my hot grips. Oh course, with it being 75F today I didn't need them. I totally couldn't believe the weather today. I rode in mesh. This, too, will pass.
ReplyDeleteI will always return to a shop or online retailer just for their good service, even if it costs a little more. I live in a country where good service is unusual, so buying things, eating, or getting something fixed in the USA is nearly always a real pleasure for me.
ReplyDeleteRichardM: I've had three issues in the last two years (one for each glove, and now controller) all three times they have been great. I can't say the same for tourmaster.
ReplyDeleteKeith: I love my hot grips too. Tempting to rip the grips off the BMW heatedgrips and put on hotgrips.
Gary: interesting perspective I hadn't heard before. maybe you just secretly love the american accent ;)
I went through two 'mounted' Gerbing Dual controllers last year. One or both sides just quit working. No idea why. I switched to a Warm 'n Safe 'mounted' controller and have had no problems since. I was not able to warantee them as I'd cut the wires to hook up to a Fuzeblock.
ReplyDeleteChunk Norris: a shame you had so much trouble with your mounted controllers. I use the portable, so I can have heat on all of my bikes.
