Last week was First Thursday, it was nice to see so many other bikes. March was just my Ural and a Harley. Of course, there was snow every where then too. I estimate there was close to a thousand people at the peak for April. A very amazing number that is usually reserved for warmer months, but the unseasonably warm weather we’ve been having encouraged people to get out early.
I had a great time chatting with old friends and new friends. I’m slightly bummed I will miss May and June, but then again I’ll be in the midst of a great ride, so I guess it’s ok. lol.
Here are some of my favorite motorcycles from this month:
Flying Merkel frame, but not the engine. Someone mentioned the engine was a from a Yamaha.
This little Yamaha YSR. You don’t get the full effect until the photo below.
I think this one does even better below. It is a tiny bike!
A nice sidecar. I just missed the owner by a few minutes.
My friend Rick and his FJ1200 sidecar. Here is a video of me riding in it last year.
Love the KTM RC8. I rode the R version of this around BIR. Very fond memories of the RC8R.
An original Honda Cub. Love the Gerbing heated jacket hanging from it. The Cub doesn’t have the charging system to run the coat, so he uses batteries. Smart.
The wind protection on the forks of this DL were interesting to me. The highway pegs look comfy.
A Cadillac scooter??
Love the paint job on this bike. The American and Italian flags are integrated very well.
The rider’s helmet is also very well done.
The writing on the rear fairing is nice too.
These look too fun. Only two showed up this month. Normally there is a whole pack of them sounding like a swarm of angry bees.
I don’t ever remember seeing a Laverda, so I had to take a photo.
I caught the owner later, he had the matching coat.
Gorgeous! I love your pictures.
ReplyDeletethanks!
DeleteAwesome bikes. So many cool and unusual ones to see. I am glad you had some nice weather with a big turn out.
ReplyDeleteThe paint job on that Ducati is something.
exactly. It is such a great event. almost always guaranteed to see something (or someone) unusual.
DeleteThe Flying Merkel is owned by a friend of mine. If I'm not mistaken, he used a Yamaha XT-550 engine.
ReplyDeleteGreat blog! I'm enjoying it. Hopefully I'll make it out there this summer with my '81 Yamaha SR 250.
Cool! It must be a blast to ride with the 550.
DeletePerhaps I'll see you this summer.
Chris, I'll be watching for you there in July. I had Pinto moped from J.C.Penny right around High School time, maybe 1978? I'm sure it was a re-badged Puch. It looked just like the yellow one in your pictures, except the top half of the fuel tank was chrome.
ReplyDeleteI am now signed up to teach another BRC in July and unfortunately the classroom is that thursday night. I won't be there in July either. doh! August? :)
DeleteDid you keep the pinto or is it long gone now?
Chris, the Pinto is long gone. I see them every once in a while on craigslist though. August huh... I'll be in South Dakota for that First Thursday. It looks like it will be September 6th?
DeleteLOL. I guess we'll try for September then :)
