A short video of the sound differences between Moto3 (250cc), Moto2 (600cc), and MotoGP (1000cc). The camera ended up clipping a little audio because they are so loud, but there is enough to show the general idea. This was from the IndyGP 2012 at turns seven and eight.
I like the sound of the Moto2 bikes when they are in a pack.
I have to agree on the moto2 sound. I always thought that they ran at much higher rpm or is it lower because they are in a corner?
ReplyDeleteThey do run pretty high. You can hear them go wide open just as they leave the right side of the frame as they go onto the back straight.
DeleteI like the Moto2 sound as well - I ride a R6 which performs best when its above 10k rpms - on any straight I try to ride the whole gear until the next, that's when the R6 really starts screaming.
DeleteThe sound of all of the bikes was different than I expected. Since Ducati's success with Stoner, I've read they took the gloves off of exhaust noise and everyone else followed suit. Honestly, that's a pretty good reason for me to avoid races, since it's not real world and promotes stupidity on the street. I thought about Laguna two years ago and Indianapolis last year, but blew those trips off because of the noise reports I read. I have a volume control on my television set. I do miss the sound of the 500cc two-strokes, though.
ReplyDeleteThey had a different one than I expected as well. They sound different in real life compared to TV. I wore earplugs the entire time, and then had no issues with sound. I enjoyed the experience and will be going to see one live again next year.
DeleteNo love for the XR1200 class? =]
