This past Tuesday night was the monthly RiderCoach night at Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) Driving Course aka the track. It’s a time for us to get together and talk. Mostly about bikes sometimes about coaching. The “track” is about one mile long and in the normal configuration has about 17 corners. Last night it was more like 14 with some of the tighter stuff straightened out. Most of the ridercoaches rode their street bikes there, but a few trailered race bikes to play with.
It was a good time chatting and riding. I was a bit too tired to properly enjoy myself on the track, so I spent most of my time chatting instead. It was nice to finally attend. I missed the first two this year due to my big trip, and then the most recent two because it was 100 degrees both days (or close enough).
I rode my trusty SV650. Two other coaches brought their SV650s too. Nice! There was a surprising amount of BMWs there as well.
Nice picture of the SV. It sounds like a great opportunity to ride a bit and talk to fellow coaches. Good times.
ReplyDeleteGood seeing you, Chris. Thanks for the blog scheduling tip. I like it.
ReplyDeleteChris,
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize until I moved that there is a glut of motorcycle activity in MN and a corresponding dearth of activity here in Kansas. I looked in the back of the AMA magazine last month just to confirm this. Again, you have my envy.
Brady
Brady,
ReplyDeleteI grew up in western Kansas. I became an off-road rider in 1963 because Kansans thought it was entertaining to run me off of the road on my way to work. I mean intentionally driving across the road to either try to bump me into a ditch or hit the bike head-on, just as a means of entertaining themselves on the way to work or the bar. So, I just decided to drive in the ditch all the time to save them the trouble.
Then, there is the issue of GMO-fed deer the size of horses. When I was a kid, I never saw a deer in Kansas outside of the Dodge City or Hutch zoos. The last time I rode to Kansas to visit my parents, I was dodging deer almost the size of elk just outside of Kinsley and Dodge. The freakin' things were on the road at noon, not just the usual hoofed rat evening and dawn problem.
My brother lives in Hutch and rode to work year around for a couple of years. The only other guys he knew who owned bikes would trailer their Harleys to Colorado and ride a few dozen miles from the motel every day, calling that a "bikers' vacation." One of those deer took him out a few years back and he's been "looking" for a replacement bike since. Off road Kansas isn't bad, especially where you can still follow the Santa Fe Trail and out west where the limited access roads have yet to be fenced. Riding on the street in Kansas is as boring as watching dry paint rot.
Looks like you had a good time. Keep rolling....
