The rack on my SV650 broke a weld again. Granted, the last weld wasn't good one. It lasted less than a week. The overall design of the rack is quite poor which leads to the failures. Last night it failed with nothing in any of the cases; only the pressure of the wind and the weight of the empty cases.
Step one was to grind off the old weld material.
Then lay out the two pieces to be welded back together
The new piece welded with a much heavier duty welder this time.
A little paint and it looks as good as new. I am really hoping it stays together this time. I will be riding to Indiana soon for MotoGP.
Fingers crossed it holds this time.
ReplyDeleteIndeed!
DeleteHope it lasts longer. The weld looks porous without a lot of penetration. It's steel?
ReplyDeleteSo far so good. Going to load it up tomorrow and see how it holds on some bumpy roads. Yes, it is steel.
DeleteDon't you hate having solve the same problem twice ... hope that two's a charm for you.
ReplyDeleteIf I would have done it right the first time... yes, I hope two is the charm. Feels really strong still.
DeleteBummer, but better at home than have a continent away. It is amazing how powerful vibration can be. It can really stress connections. Hope this holds...at least until your back from Indiana. It seems lately you developed a thing for traveling to destinations beginning with the letter "I".
ReplyDeleteI hope it holds, and still seems quite strong. Lol. Yes... travelling to places with an I
